Position Summary: Mechanic will install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair a wide range of mechanical equipment, systems and associated controls located in the interior and exterior of the buildings on the campus. This role has wide ranging responsibilities including but not limited to HVAC system and controls, general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing system, steam, chilled water, boilers, chillers and related controls including the BMS and other facility subsystems.
The Mechanic executes the timely and correct performance of scheduled assignments, work requests and projects.
Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and mechanical/plumbing code specifications to determine correct layout and troubleshooting of commercial/industrial mechanical equipment and systems.
Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of mechanical equipment and related components in accordance with all applicable codes and standards (MI Mechanical/Plumbing Code, NFPA, OSHA, etc...) including maintain accurate records.
Research and specify repair parts from manuals and computer sources
Commitment to participate in continuous improvement efforts to optimize reliability and value
Ability to work alone and in a multi-skilled team environment.
High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent
Valid Michigan driver license
Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in a process driven mechanical field, has a certified (Pipefitter/Plumber/Millwright/Machine Repair) Journeyman’s Card (U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and in state-authorized Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training programs) or State/Local Boiler/Refrigeration licensing or other certification program. EPA Refrigerant Transition & Recovery Certification is a plus.
Good analytical and problem solving skills using predictive maintenance techniques and simplified root cause analysis of equipment failures.
Perform all work in a safe manner in accordance with government regulatory compliance and standard operating procedures.
Ability to read drawings and blueprints and interpret specifications
Must be able to safely operate hand and power tools, and other power equipment that are common in the mechanical field including computer-based equipment
Good physical health, strength and stamina including eyesight, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity
Familiarity with computerized IWMS/CMMS work order process
Adaptability to work in a diverse environment, focusing on customer satisfaction under high-stress conditions, and organize an effective response to day-to-day requirements, and one-of-a-kind extremes
Good oral and written communications skills that invite credibility, loyalty, trust and commitment among key stakeholders in operations, critical facilities, events, and line supervisors.
Responsiveness to supervisory direction, productivity, quality, commitment and time management
Demonstrated skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Ability to provide technical guidance to non-technical or production operators.
Must be willing to perform a variety of tasks as assigned
Must possess a working knowledge of gasoline powered landscape equipment (mowers, edgers, trimmers, chainsaw, etc)
Valid Texas drivers license
Must be able to lift or move heavy objects up to 80 lbs
Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions
Must be able to work outdoors and endure temperature and extreme weather
