Qualified individual required for the position of Purchasing Agent to support category management leads for CPG & beverage categories and assist with local vendor review activity. This individual will work closely with category management to support supply chain administration on a national basis. The candidate will be involved with all aspects of operational support including coordination of efforts between distribution, vendors, and marketing to support compliance initiatives. Experience in dealing with direct or indirect produce, protein or dairy vendors is an asset to the successful candidate. Diversified experience with ARAMARK or similar contract caterers, with their lines of business, marketing and support departments would be an advantage.

Category management responsibilities to include:

  • Assist in strategic supplier/category development and needs analysis

  • Vendor and product pre-qualification activity

  • Product development and testing

  • Supporting the management of formal tendering processes

  • Preparation and analysis of detailed financial proposals

  • Contract preparation and execution

  • Supporting the launch of contracted products including internal and external communications

  • Coordinate pricing of products on a national basis

  • Operational support for categories of responsibility

  • Interaction with all members of the Canadian Supply Chain team to support the effectiveness of existing systems


  • College or university graduate with proven problem solving analytical skills or finance/accounting experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a food service/food retail/food supplier/food distribution environment , preferably in a multi-unit organization

  • Confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, and interest in developing strong negotiation abilities

  • Strong PC data manipulation skills with emphasis on advanced Excel (Microsoft Access would be an asset)

  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with distributors and suppliers (written & verbal)

  • Must be able to work independently, and be detail oriented with ability to demonstrate problem solving skill sets.
